Session Overview:

This PD session is designed to empower educators in schools and districts to gain a comprehensive understanding of specific IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act) or DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition) classifications. Attendees will explore common misconceptions, skill gaps associated with these classifications, and acquire specific instructional strategies, resources, and tools to better cater to the needs of these exceptional learners.

What Attendees Will Learn:

    • In-Depth Understanding: Gain a thorough understanding of the chosen disability category under IDEA or DSM-5. This will include delving into the definition of the disability, its diagnostic criteria, and the skill gaps commonly associated with it.
    • Visual Learning: Engage with interactive videos and live demonstrations to visualize and comprehend the disability more effectively. These visuals will facilitate a deeper understanding of the practical aspects and challenges faced by students with this classification.
    • Effective Strategies: Acquire a toolkit of strategies designed to address the skill gaps typically seen in students with the chosen disability category. These strategies will be tailored to accommodate various learning settings, including inclusive classrooms, co-teaching environments, or pull-out sessions.
    • Collaborative Problem-Solving: Collaborate with fellow attendees to brainstorm and discuss innovative methods for addressing skill gaps. Benefit from collective expertise and diverse perspectives to develop adaptable solutions that can be implemented in different educational contexts.
    • Rich Resource Library: Gain access to a curated collection of resources, materials, and tools to support the continuous development of knowledge and expertise in working with students who have the specific disability category. These resources will serve as valuable references throughout the learning journey.

By participating in this training program, educators will be better equipped to understand, support, and empower students with disabilities, ensuring that they receive a high-quality education in an inclusive and accommodating learning environment.
