Education Modified SBIR IES Phase I & II Awardee
Innovative IEP Goal Creation: Equipping Special and General Educators
Our Phase I research and development work focused on the EdMod Goals feature. This element of our platform streamlines the IEP goal management and progress monitoring process and saves educators time by providing an easy user interface that exists within the learning management systems that they already use. As our teachers have adopted EdMod as the one place to manage goals and progress monitoring data, they have discovered that it works for all types of goals, not just IEP.
Research-Driven EdMod Feature Development
- Manage academic and functional goals
- Input specific and measurable goals
- Set success target and data collection schedule
- Specify the data collection tool
- Visualize goal progress monitoring data
- Upload evidence of progress
- Create summary reports for all stakeholders
The promising results and recommendations from Phase I now form the basis for our Phase II R & D.

Our current Phase II research focuses on understanding and improving procedures for collecting, synthesizing and using Progress Monitoring data to inform instructional practices. WestEd is leading usability, implementation and qualitative case studies to address questions around the utility, feasibility and fidelity of implementation. For the 2020-21 Pilot study, the team is examining how EdMod shows promise for improving special educators’ ability to efficiently and effectively carry out the implementation of student IEPs.
